Mathematical Village in Turkey
A math village in Turkey! Apparently it has been recently shut down by authorities (lending to its appeal!)

[I]t currently consists of a couple of permanent buildings, a lecture shed and a dormitory -- you will find some photographs in my later post -- and a few portacabins, soon to be demolished. Turkish baths are in the process of intensive construction. By next summer this patch of abandoned farmland will have seven buildings and a small swimming pool. All construction is done strictly by traditional methods - wood, stone, and mud (and some marble for the interior of Turkish baths). Ali Nesin plans to plant some fast growing trees for shade and rejuvenate the exhausted olive trees.

This sounds a lot like what our freelancing physicist friend (sorry, I think the name is Garret. Correct me, though) was talking about setting up - if only more focused on math. He did mention that the structure of a set curriculum/courses wasn't as appealing.

Cool setup!

This sounds more like a casual kind of school. Which is a cool idea I approve of, but not what I was talking about. I'm interested in setting up a Science Hostel, which would be a nice place theorists (in math, CS, physics, etc.) could live and work peacefully, while having their room and board provided.

Jesus Christ, that is outrageous. I emailed Alexandre Borovik to add my name to the petition.
